2014 Community Grant Recipients

We are very proud to announce the recipients of the 2014 Community Grants. This year, we’re helping send kids to Catalina and bring music to their schools!

We’re helping them learn old style photography, organic gardening, and that coding is cool! We're pitching in so that Venice Oceanarium can get the Grunion Festival up and running and so reDiscover Center can keep Saturday's Open Studio open.

A Big Thank You to the talented and committed people who create and implement the projects AKFA proudly supports.

We'll feature our grantees and their works individually in upcoming posts, so stay tuned. For now, here is the complete list of the 2014 recipients and the great projects that AKFA grants will support.

Beyond Baroque

One of AKFA's Community Grants recipients is Beyond Baroque, a venerable Venice organization dedicated to the possibility of language. They have written us:

"Thanks to the generous support of the Abbot Kinney Festival Association, Beyond Baroque has been able to make significant improvements to the acoustics and atmosphere of its theater. These improvements have greatly enhanced the experiences of Venice audiences attending our readings, performances, and concerts."

Beyond Baroque is one of the United States' leading independent Literary | Arts Centers and public spaces dedicated to expanding the public's knowledge of poetry, literature and art through cultural events and community interaction. Founded in 1968, Beyond Baroque is based out of the original City Hall building in Venice, California. The Center offers a diverse variety of literary and arts programming including readings, workshops, new music and education. The building also houses a bookstore with the largest collection of new poetry books and CDs for sale and an archive that houses over 40,000 books, including small press and limited-edition publications, chronicling the history of poetry movements in Los Angeles and beyond.
