2008 Abbot Kinney Festival Poster Contest
The Abbot Kinney District Association is pleased to announce an open call for poster art to celebrate the 24th annual Abbot Kinney Festival. The winning entry will be used as the Festival Poster, in promotions and advertising, as well as on T shirts and bags.
Previous years posters have been designed by legendary artists such as Earl Newman and Tom Everhart and emerging local artists Ken Thelian and Hupi Lee.

Collectors eagerly await the 2008 poster.

Attracting over 150,000 people, the Festival is a free one day event, held on the last Sunday in September.
It features over 300 arts and crafts vendors, community organizations, 3 stages of music and entertainment, a Youth & Family Courtyard, as well as food and drink.  It is sponsored by AKDA, a Venice Non-profit organization that benefits the Venice Community.   This year's festival theme will emphasize volunteering and connecting with your community. We hope to inspire community service and create a stronger sense of community. Because it is an election year, many organizations representing elements of the Democratic process will participate.
While the poster does not have to reflect the community involvement theme to be considered, it does need to be representative of the spirit of Venice, include an image of Abbot Kinney, and be appropriate and useful for promotional purposes.

Entries must be postmarked by May 30, 2008.

Rules

  1. All artwork must be original and previously unpublished.
  2. Artwork becomes exclusive property of AKDA (also known as AKCA) (See "Legal Rights and Ownership of Artwork" below).
  3. Poster Artwork must include the following verbiage in a prominent, readable font "24th Annual Abbot Kinney Festival, Sunday, September 28th, 2008, 10-6 pm" and include our website address www.abbotkinney.org
  4. Design may be in any medium but must be reproducible over a variety of different media. Poster will be printed at both 11"x17" and 24'x36"
  5. A separate adaptation for T-shirts is appreciated. The goal is to incorporate poster design elements with Festival info to make an attractive T shirt using a maximum of 4 colors. (We want to avoid the square, rubbery poster-stamped-on-a-T look.)
  6. Designs should be submitted on cd in pdf, jpeg or tif formats along with a color hard copy. Please note the program used and the filename on the disc. Minimum 300 dpi resolution (@24"x 36" reproduction) and print ready files should be in CMYK format.
  7. Entries must be postmarked by May 30, 2008. Winner will be announced May 15, 2008. Artwork will be judged by the AKDA Festival Committee and all decisions are final.
Legal Rights and Ownership of Artwork
AKDA will own all rights to the Artwork of the winning entry. AKDA will have all rights to reproduce, sell and distribute the winning Artwork entry. All rights and privileges pertaining to copyright, reproduction, and ownership of the Artwork will be relinquished by the artist.

AKDA will have rights to display all non-winning entries at Festival or other public exhibit.

Artwork will not be returned unless artist includes a self addressed, postage paid envelope.

Winning artist will receive $500 cash prize for poster and a possible additional $100 for t-shirt adaptation. Your poster art will be prominent in ads and online and will be cherished by collectors! We will not accept submissions via email but you may contact us at info@abbotkinney.org
